Introduction to Behaviour-Based Safety -
The Series presents the founding principles of behaviour-based safety and shows how this approach differs from other approaches to safety performance management. The videos show how traditional approaches to safety fall short of continuous improvement, and introduce principles that allow organisations to achieve an injury-free culture.
The presenter in the series is Tom Krause, the founder of Behavioural Science Technology that pioneered the behaviour-based approach to safety which lead to its acceptance in hundreds of sites around the world. The video series is designed to be interactive with participants, with several pauses for group exercises and discussions in each video. Each video comes with a Presenter's Guide and Workbooks for participants.
Module 1 – Foundation Concepts: Shifting the Paradigm
Introduces the basic concepts of behaviour, attitude and culture and it explains the relationship between them.
Module 2 – Behaviour Analysis: Understanding the Causes
Describes "ABC Analysis", a valuable tool for understanding the factors that influence behaviour and how to use them to improve safety.
Module 3 – The Inventory: Defining Behavioural Exposures
Focuses on the basic skills and steps involved in creating an effective inventory of critical behaviours for use in observation.
Module 4 – Observation Feedback: Creating Positive Consequences
Describes behaviour-based observation and feedback and the skills and steps necessary to gather data and create positive consequences for safe behaviour.
Module 5 – Problem Solving: Removing the Barriers
Discusses removing barriers to safety performances with behavioural problem solving.
Each of the five videos in the series runs for approximately 25 minutes in length. It is suggested that from 40 to 70 minutes is scheduled additionally for discussion purposes. The series is designed in modules so that the videos can be presented in one hour or ninety-minute increments. Presenter’s Guides and one set of Viewer’s Workbooks are supplied for each module with the purchase of the program. Additional Viewer’s Workbooks are obtainable at an extra cost.
